I know that a lot of people who read this blog may be from a different part of the world. Nevertheless, I would like to share with you a few facts about Wales and tell you all how beautiful this small part of the ‘world’ really is.
I guess that it is obvious you would be forgiven for thinking that I’m not from the UK but only reside in Wales and have for the last seven years now. I have been living here for quite a while now.
There are so many books out there but most of the really popular reads are set with an American feel backdrop. I haven’t read a well-known paranormal romance novel where the action actually takes place in Wales. (If anyone has these, please provide some titles).
My initial inspiration for the location, I guess spawned from a simple question! I asked a friend where I should set the scene. This was at the time of studying at Swansea University. I knew that I wanted it to have a coastal feel somewhere but I had all sorts of ideas in my mind.
‘Why don’t you write about what you know?’ said my friend Beatrice during our lunch break between Hollywood class and French. I looked at her confused trying to eat my pasta but my appetite was slowly dissolving.
‘What do you mean?’ I asked staring at her feeling uneasy.
‘Here. Swansea University’ she replied smiling darkly. I was staring at her wondering if she was serious or as usual she was making fun of me. After that, we started talking about something else. A few months after that, I decided to write a book that would be based in Swansea University and chose to use her idea and spice it up. I always wanted to write paranormal romance, the romantic story about two people that fall in love where the woman or man is extraordinary. Well that’s how the story about Gabriel and Ania really began. Swansea University is just by the sea. Moreover, the Gower peninsula is the perfect to setting for romance.
Here, there are a couple of pictures of the Swansea University and Gower:

Around Wales, there are so many different places to visit with so much history that can sink into your imagination. Castles, hills, and sea mountains can get your mind to spin with so many different combinations. Most of my crucial action takes place in the beach. Despite the constant rain (yes even in the summer), there is a lot I can write about. I can reveal tiny information about my plot. The main character Ania who is originally from Russia, currently lives in London. She has been accepted to start her new life in Swansea in a local university. When she arrives to Swansea, she goes out with her new housemates to explore the town and then in the end she gets to the beach. Everything starts from there, from freezing cold Welsh sea where she is attacked and is almost killed. After a few days, she wakes up in the hospital and her life is no longer the same. …
Apart from castles, hills and rain, if you looking to explore Wales, I strongly suggest to see Brecon Beacons National Park and travel around the cost to see and experience true welsh beauty. I think I can talk and talk more about Wales but I could bore everyone to death going into this further. So instead, I will post a couple of links below and more pictures. Here are more pictures and couple of useful links.

Actually, as a Welsh American, I set my current WIP in America and Wales. My main characters are Welsh. I’d say more but that gives it away, lol. I plan on visiting Wales at some point in the next few years.
You should check out AmeriCymru. Great folks, altho it’s mostly Americans with Welsh ancestry or Welsh ex-pats in the States.
Love your pics!
I have a Welsh name, but am English. I have based my novels on areas I know. The third I am taking right back to my home town, in the Victorian era. It has been great learning more about the place.
Not forgetting the glorious town of Caerphilly and its magnificent castle and beautiful people!
